 LASERS
Multi-pass Amplified Femtosecond Titanium-Sapphire Laser Facility Titanium-Sapphire Oscillator: Sub-15-femtosecond pulses at 800 nanometers and about 100 megahertz, 500 milliwatts average power, pumped by a Coherent Innova Model 200-10 Argon-ion laser. 

Multi-pass Titanium-Sapphire Amplifier: 1-millijoule, 30-femtosecond pulses at 800 nanometers and 1 kilohertz, pumped by a Quantronix Q-switched Nd:YLF laser, all-reflective stretcher/compressor pair.

Regeneratively Amplified Femtosecond Titanium-Sapphire Laser Facility Titanium-Sapphire Oscillator: 80-femtosecond pulses at 800  
nanometers and 95 MHz, 300 mW average power, pumped by a Coherent Innova Model 200-10 Argon-ion laser. 

Chirped-Pulse Regenerative-Amplifier: 1-millijoule, 100-femtosecond pulses at 800 nanometers and 1 kilohertz, pumped by a Quantronix 527 Q-switched Nd:YLF laser, all-reflective stretcher/compressor. 

Harmonic Generation System: 200-microjoule, 200-femtosecond pulses at 400 nanometers; 10-microjoule, 250-femtosecond pulses at 266 nanometers.

Long-cavity Titanium-Sapphire Laser Oscillator Facility Sub-100-femtosecond pulses at 800 nanometers and 25 megahertz, 15 nanojoule/pulse, 400 milliwatts continuous power, pumped by Coherent Verdi 5 Watts diode-pumped, intra-cavity doubled, continuous-wave Nd:YAG.
Optical Parametric Amplifier Two-stage amplification using BBO crystals, seeded with ultrafast continuum generated in a water cell, 10 microjoule, 100-femtosecond pulses with 560 - 720 nanometers and 1.1 - 2.9 micrometers tuning range.
Difference Frequency Generator Difference frequency generation of signal and idler from Optical Parametric Amplifier. Tuning range 2.0 - 7.8 micrometers, energy/pulse ~200 nanojoule.
  APPARATUS
Ultra-High Vacuum Surface Science Apparatus Vacuum chamber with UV and IR-grade quartz viewports; mass spectrometer and LEED/Auger spectrometer; sample manipulator, temperature range 90-1250 Kelvin; gas handling system; sputter ion gun; turbomolecular pumps, ion pump, mechanical pumps; constructed on a 4'x4' laser table for optical experiments; separate optical level with 4 windows for wide-angle optical access; automated sample cleaning; data acquisition and process control computer system using LabView; base pressure 5 x 10-11 Torr; base sample temperature 90 Kelvin (liquid-nitrogen cooling).
Broadband Dielectric Function Measurement Apparatus FROG (frequency resolved optical gating) for pulse characterization; streak camera; CCD camera, photomultipliers and other photodetectors; imaging spectrometer; motorized translation stages; data acquisiton and computer-controlled system implemented in LabView; 3 optical tables with floating capability.
Brewster Angle Microscope Brewster angle microscope for imaging monolayers of amphiphilic molecules on water; automated CCD imaging of monolayer; completely enclosed remote-controlled Langmuir-Blodgett trough; Wilhelmy-plate surface tension monitor; temperature control for studying phase behavior; spatial resolution 10 micrometers; 2-degrees molecular tilt resolution; temperature resolution 0.1 Kelvin.
Semiconductor Texturing Apparatus  High-vacuum chamber with 2D automated sample manipulation; mechanical pump; halogen gas handling system; CCD camera and video monitor.
Laser Micromachining Apparatus Setup comprising tight-focusing optics, two 3D translation stages, and a dispersion-compensating prism pair, used to write structures in bulk glass using the long-cavity oscillator (see above). Set of microscope objectives covering numerical apertures from 0.25 to 1.4.
